Sayyed Darwish is commonly known as the father of popular Egyptian music and is widely celebrated as Egypt’s greatest composer. Before 1918, he sung in cafes for multiple years without getting much recognition. Darwish then decided to go in a different direction and moved to Cairo to focus on Opera. He composed operettas before starting his own company and taking singing roles. Passionate about the Egyptian nation, Darwish felt a strong connection to the land and the conflicts that were occurring there. This relationship inspired his music and lyrics and were often the major themes of his songs. Some of his most famous songs include the Egyptian national anthem (“Bilady, Bilady, Bilady”) and Salma ya Salâma. The interior design of the room emulates the “workshop” to highlight his early life as a construction worker. Moreover, the room contains wood and other construction materials.
